Why we are building North Star

Small private schools run on the same operational complexity as large ones, with a fraction of the staff to absorb it.

The systems built for those schools tend to fall into two groups. Enterprise platforms are capable but priced and scoped for districts, and they come with implementation timelines that assume someone on staff owns the project full time. The cheaper options are usually a gradebook with other functions attached later, so the student record lives in several places at once and the office reconciles them by hand.

North Star SIS is the middle option: one student record shared by admissions, academics, attendance, and billing, priced so a school with a few hundred students can actually run it, and simple enough that the office can set it up without hiring a consultant.

Who builds it

North Star SIS is a product of Web Foundry LLC, a software company that builds and operates the things it ships. Support comes from the people who wrote the code, not a tier-one queue reading from a script.
